Dining On Board

Food on a Vintage Trains journey is prepared and served on board by a team who take it seriously, in carriages that give it the right setting. From breakfast to a four-course dinner, the meal is part of the day rather than a convenience, and what is available depends on the journey you are travelling and the class you choose.

what the food is like onboard

Breakfast

TRADITIONAL ENGLISH BREAKFAST

Bacon, sausage, eggs, tomato, and all the usual accompaniments, cooked fresh and served to your seat as the countryside starts to move past the window. A proper start to the day, with tea or coffee poured throughout, before you’ve even reached your destination.

Afternoon_Tea

afternoon tea

Finger sandwiches, scones with jam and clotted cream, and a selection of cakes, delivered to your seat with tea or coffee as the journey winds down. A quiet, unhurried way to end the day, with everything brought to you and nothing left to arrange yourself.

Mad Hatters Tea Party

sunday lunch

A roast done properly, carved and plated with all the trimmings, served to your seat with the kind of quality and presentation you’d expect from a top-drawer restaurant kitchen. Tea or coffee follows, and the only thing you need to do is sit back and enjoy.

Dinner

Four Course Evening Dinner

Starter, main, dessert, and cheese, brought to you course by course across the return journey as the light fades outside. A full sit-down dinner served to your seat from start to finish, with tea and coffee to close things out.

Classes of Travel

PULLMAN

Travel in one of our original Pullman Cars with meals served at your seat throughout the journey, with tea and coffee included. Pullman Dining is available on most Vintage Trains journeys and represents the most complete on-board experience we offer. Guaranteed tables for two are available at a supplement on selected services, subject to availability.

First Class

Travel in our authentic 1960s coaches with a light breakfast served to your seat on the outward journey and afternoon tea on the return. Guaranteed tables for two are available at a supplement on some services, subject to availability.

Standard

Standard passengers travel in comfortable seating with picture windows and access to the buffet car throughout the journey. Hot drinks, soft drinks, light refreshments, and alcoholic drinks are available for purchase. On selected journeys, bacon rolls and afternoon tea in a box can be pre-ordered to enjoy on board.

DINING ON THE SHAKESPEARE EXPRESS

After selecting your boarding station, ticket options become available. Choose First Class and a proper meal is brought to your seat while the Warwickshire countryside goes by outside the window. What’s on the menu depends on where you board. Full details are on the Shakespeare Express page.

On selected journeys, Standard passengers can pre-order food to enjoy on board. Details are listed on each individual journey page.
